Born in Jalisco, Mexico, my identity is strongly connected to my Mexican heritage. My favorite memories growing up in Mexico included living by the Pacific Ocean, learning to swim from a very young age, and always wanting to be around water. My love for plants and animals has been nourished by my family’s values to love and respect nature. Like many Latinx families seeking a better life, my parents made the decision for us to immigrate to the US, after a wait of 10 years. I was 11 years old at the time, and with that, my two sisters, our parents and I immigrated to Oregon, with the hope of bright academic opportunities for us girls and a better life for the family.

As the eldest daughter, I took on the responsibility of learning English as fast as I could to help translate things to my parents, and unintentionally, becoming a little adult in my parent’s eyes. Adversity knocked at our door many times, but my dad had a hopeful and resilient outlook when facing any challenge, which I then took on and applied in my life. I learned from my mother’s tenacity and feminist views to believe in myself, even if I was in rooms that were not meant for me or my experience.

Pursuing a master’s degree in Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy encouraged me to use my love for connection and compassion as my primary tools in the therapy room. My main goal in therapy is to create a space where people can open up about their deepest fears, aching traumas and insecurities and, not only feel heard and seen, but also find respite in the softness of my approach.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy listening to an array of genres, from pop to electronic, to banda, to reggaeton, to rock en espanol and the, oh-so-refreshing, punk/emo rock. Going out to eat, traveling and singing at concerts and karaoke with loved ones are sure ways of recharging my battery.
